Common Side Effects of High Cholesterol Medications

High Cholesterol is Killer desease and  High cholesterol medications are a very popular item prescribed by doctor's all around the world. Cholesterol is a big problem among developed nations and has been for number of years. Pharmaceutical companies around the world have realized this and continue to develop all kinds of high cholesterol medications and more and more doctors are prescribing them to their patients. Some of these medications work very well but all of them will cause some type of side effects.

Muscle Aches

The most common side effect people will experience is muscle aches and pains. This is usually associated with statin drugs and in some extreme cases, this could cause something much worse than just high cholesterol. Research has shown that in rare cases, people can develop a condition called Rhabdomyolysis which is when proteins and other material break down at the cellular level and create a lot of toxins. These toxins can cause kidney failure in extreme cases. If you have any muscle aches at all that seem unusually bad, contact your doctor right away.

Sore Throat and Dry Nose

Nasal inflammation, dry nasal passages, and a sore throat can sometimes accompany the use of a new high cholesterol medication. While these are common symptoms for many medicines, they can cause enough discomfort that it can be very irritating throughout the day. These symptoms can worsen and turn into respiratory infections or a feeling like you have the flu all the time.

Diarrhea

Fatty foods contribute to high cholesterol levels and some high cholesterol medications work in a way that blocks fat from being absorbed into the intestines. If you overdo the fatty foods because you know not all of it will be absorbed, you can be in for an unpleasant surprise.

About 10 years ago, a product called Olestra became very popular in fat free chips and such so people ran out and ate whole bags at a time. Later, they had the worst diarrhea of their lives. The fat isn't absorbed so there's only one place it can go. Be very careful with your fat intake if you are taking a medication that blocks fats.

What to Do About Your Cholesterol

One of the best ways to lower your cholesterol is to do it naturally. It is very affordable and doesn't cost much, thanks to modern-day advances. But you still have to do some research to find the best natural cholesterol supplement. There are plenty excellent natural alternatives out there, so you shouldn't have a problem.
